First Things First
In the photography industry there is some familiar terminology which is constantly used. No matter how mundane it may seem, it is important, even for beginners, to become familiar with a few of these terms in order to assign correct names to your camera’s equipment. For the purpose of this article, only a few terms are explained in order to improve understanding of the concepts and tips provided.
Flash: is a built-in device in most modern digital cameras and is used to illuminate the subject and its vicinity in an instant. It’s a “two-edged sword” that can either enhance your photo by eliminating shadows or make your pictures appear flat and uninteresting.
Exposure: is the total amount of light allowed to enter the camera’s sensor, but can be controlled by exposure settings such as shutter speed, aperture and sensitivity. Knowing how to manipulate light is the most important skill any photographer can have.
Shutter speed: In the most basic terms, shutter speed in digital cameras can be explained as the amount of time allowed for your image sensor to ‘see’ the scene. Difference in shutter speed could mean the difference in blurry or crisp images.
ISO settings: Your camera’sTripods may be bothersome to carry around, but if you plan on capturing wildlife images, for example, they will play a large factor in the end result.
With these basic digital tips and tricks, you will enjoy the ultimate satisfaction of portrait-worthy photos, and you may want to learn more to blossom your creativity.
